REGULATIONS
ON THE MEMBERSHIP IN THE NORTHERN FORUM ACADEMY

 

  1. The Academy members can be the citizens of any country and stateless persons having higher education, conducting and supporting the research on solving the problems of the North and the Arctic, recognizing the present Charter and assisting the implementation of the Academy’s goals and objectives.
  2. The Academy members can be scientific and research institutes, higher education institutions, public and private scientific and research, production and other institutions which exercise their rights through their representatives.
  3. Individual membership in the Academy is subdivided into three categories: honorary member, active member and associate member. The Academy members must pay the admission and annual fees. The order of payment and the amount of fee are determined by the Academy’s Executive Committee.  
  4. To be admitted to the Academy members one should submit the application form to the Academy.
  5. Active members of the Academy can be research workers with an academic degree, state and public figures who have contributed significantly to solving the problems of the North and the Arctic and have paid the determined fee. The active member has a right to:
    • Take part in the General Assembly with the decisive vote;
    • Elect and be elected to the Executive Committee;
    • Take part in the international conferences held by the NFA without paying the registration fee;
    • Take part in the NFA research projects;
    • Apply for the competitions to receive the NFA awards and scholarships;
    • Take part in the work of expert councils;
    • Be published in the NFA publications;
    • Obtain relevant information on the NFA activity;
    • Obtain access to the NFA databases;
    • Receive information materials (bulletins) published by the NFA;
    • Get a certificate and a badge.
  6. Associate members can be those people interested in the Academy’s information support, in expansion of contacts on the issues of research and development of the Arctic and the North and paid the determined fee. The associate member has a right to:
    • Take part in the General assembly without vote;
    • Take part in the international conferences held by the NFA paying a reduced registration fee (not more than 50% of the determined fee);
    • Take part in the NFA research projects;
    • Be published in the NFA publications;
    • Obtain limited access to the NFA databases;
    • Receive information materials (bulletins) published by the NFA.
    • Get a certificate.
  7. Honorary members of the Academy are elected among the prominent scientists, state and public figures who have contributed significantly to the development of the Arctic and the North and provided considerable assistance to the Academy. The honorary members are released from paying the membership fees and have all the rights of active members.  
  8. Organizations are the Academy corporate members. They have a right to:
    • Send their representative (representatives) to take part in the General Assembly with one decisive vote;
    • Release their representative from paying the registration fees at the conferences held by the NFA;
    • Take part in the NFA research projects;
    • Advertise their activity in the Academy’s publications;
    • Obtain relevant information on the NFA activity;
    • Receive information materials (bulletins) published by the NFA;
  9. Members of all categories must:
    • Make a strong contribution to solving the problems of the Arctic and the North;
    • Promote the increase of knowledge about the activity of the Northern Forum and its Academy, assist the promotion of its ideas and projects;
    • Pay the membership fee in a due time;
    • Execute the decisions of the General Assembly and Executive Committee of the Academy;
    • Inform the Academy’s Secretariat about all changes (address, place of work, position, etc.)
  10. The following admission and annual membership fees are determined (payment of fees by the Russian members is effected at the Russian Central Bank rate on the day of payment):
    • For individual members – USD 50;
    • For corporate members – USD 600;
  11. Fees are accepted both in transfers to the operating account and in cash.

  13. The Academy members who have attracted 10 new members, or 1 corporate member, or those who have raised funds for the Academy’s project and publication, are released from paying the fees.
  14. Withdrawal from the Academy is executed under the written application to the Academy.
  15. Liquidation of a corporate member is regarded as withdrawal from the Academy.
  16. Failure to pay the membership fees in the next two years leads to an automatic withdrawal from membership.
